How AI Tackles Security, Then Unlocks Human Creativity in the Workplace

With AI reducing manual workloads, IT security teams can spend time innovating and, in turn, improve organizational security postures from reactive to proactive.


As humans, we are often driven to overcome challenges, and this has sparked critically beneficial innovations across our species’ history. Today, we’ve taken another great leap forward with generative AI in an even shorter timeframe.

As leaders, we are responsible for staying updated with the latest technological advancements and leveraging them to solve complex problems particular to our businesses. With the technology talent shortage spanning multiple industries, it’s time for leaders to consider how AI benefits their organizations and existing employees.

While some leaders have a fear-based perspective on AI, I believe that embracing this emerging technology can address myriad issues adversely impacting cybersecurity. In fact, I believe harnessing AI goes far beyond that and has great potential to enhance human capabilities at large.

Technology Replacing Humans: Been There. Done That.

The myth of AI replacing humans across the board can cause a knee-jerk negative reaction, but we should step back and consider the positive ways in which technological advancements have positively enhanced our lives in the past.

For example, customer support chatbots have replaced humans in resolving commonly asked questions. Support centers can be overwhelmed with thousands of repetitive cases per day, leading to agent burnout and attrition. Chatbots help reduce these problems by handling simple inquiries so support teams can focus on cases that require human empathy and creativity for solutions.

Technology has also positively taken on a previously human role in the ride-hailing industry. Filling in the gap, ride-hailing apps have taken over this coordinator role that was once monotonous and fatigue-inducing. In turn, this has allowed employees to perform higher-level, strategic tasks such as brainstorming ways to recruit drivers and incentivizing riders to choose their company.

Similar to the previous examples, automation and specifically hyperautomation – the concept of AI-driven automation at scale – is transforming cybersecurity for the better. Cybersecurity professionals lean on hyperautomation for security triage, from detecting abnormal activity to appropriately responding to any threats, all in a rapid manner. While impossible for humans to stop all cyberattacks manually, AI is enabling security teams to close the gap significantly. And, with 66% of security teams reporting burnout on unprecedented levels, these types of technological advancements are more important than ever for higher job satisfaction and lower burnout and attrition. 

Thinking About AI Adoption? Steps on How to Do It Responsibly

Since ChatGPT was released last November, the AI floodgates have flung open with a tsunami wave of companies launching GPT-integrated products. But how well thought out are these enhancements?

Companies must carefully consider how valuable or responsible AI integrations will be.

The first step is to zero in on the pain points you want to address, then determine the guardrails needed to use AI responsibly. Some questions to ask yourself:

  • Ethical considerations and bias:
    • Are there any potential ethical concerns or biases regarding the AI solution’s data or algorithms?
    • What measures should be implemented to assess and mitigate bias and ensure fairness?
  • Data quality and privacy
    • What data will be sourced for AI use? Is this data accurate, up-to-date, and reflective as a whole?
    • What measures should be implemented to ensure data privacy and protection?
  • Security and safety
    • What security measures should be taken to protect the AI system from cyberattacks or unauthorized access?
    • How will you ensure that users can interact with your AI solution securely?
  • Compliance
    • What regulations and industry standards must your AI solution follow?
    • How will you ensure responsible AI is practiced and meets requirements on a regular basis?

These are not all the questions that should be considered when deciding how AI will be implemented responsibly, but they provide a good baseline. 

AI Unlocks Creativity for the Greater Good

Once a responsible AI practice is in place, the fun can finally begin. Generative AI has the potential to support businesses in an end-to-end capacity, allowing employees to further focus their brain power on strategic activities that require human creativity and emotional intelligence – opening up more opportunities to upskill themselves and creating more fulfilling occupations.

Keeping employees happy is also a good business investment for organizations – an Oxford study found that companies with higher well-being levels outperforming those with lower levels. Better and happier people should be the ultimate goal of any technological progress, and this shift is coming with generative AI’s entry into the mainstream.

In cybersecurity, this change has been sorely needed. For years, cybersecurity analysts have been stuck in ever-repeating cycles, unable to grow and express themselves or their advanced skills. Now, with AI reducing their manual workload, security teams can truly “get to work” on innovating and, in turn, improve organizational security posture from reactive to proactive.

This transformation is not limited to cybersecurity. When applied across all industries, we can truly recognize the exponential power of AI technology to empower employees, transform industries, and better society.
